People hate when I write articles like this. The reason is simple. Nobody likes to hear the truth, especially the brutal truth. See, the truth has a way of making you face what you don't want to face... a way of keeping you from escaping into a land of pretend. The truth is not pretty sometimes. And rarely does it make us feel good. But if you're seriously considering trying to earn a living on the Internet, then you better be told the truth by somebody. And the truth is, making a living online is both the hardest and easiest thing to do. If that doesn't make any sense, keep reading. You'll understand.

When I first decided to try to make a living online, I had no choice in the matter. I lost my job and at my age (mid 40s) I wasn't about to get employment that would pay me the salary that I was getting. So I decided that I had to find something else to do. So I turned to the Internet. Now, with all my experience in the offline world with many things, I was not prepared to make a living online. Why? I had no idea what I was doing. Heck, I didn't even know where to begin.

What I just described above is where 99% of the people who try to make a living on the Internet start out. They have no idea what's involved and don't know where to begin. The 1% who do usually have similar business experience offline and just take it with them. And even then, they have their problems because it is a different world and there IS a learning curve.

And that is where the line is between close to impossible and very easy. See, once you get past the learning curve and truly know what has to be done, you will find that because of the fewer barriers on the Internet, such as being able to sell to people in China from the US a lot easier than you can in the offline world, it is much easier to make a nice income. The opportunities are endless and there are markets that haven't even been touched yet.

The problem is crossing over that line from frustrated, clueless, deer-in-the-headlights new home business owner to the seasoned pro that some do become. And the worst part is...there are no short cuts. There are no get rich quick schemes that work. There are only long and hard days of work, work and more work.
