During the research done within the framework of Free Blogging Advice Guidelines project it became possible to view some very interesting trends on the blogging market. This research was aimed at gathering the information about what blogging platforms that are popular with professional Internet marketing bloggers.

Research Rules.

Top 100 sites provided by Google for the phrase Internet marketing blog have been under investigation.

Blogging platform and its type was defined via checking the HTML code (or source code) of all top 100 sites.

Research Results.

Before explaining the trends revealed by this research it is important to make some comments.

Not all 100 results for testing query were blogs: there have been simple web sites that mentioned, some have been blog related projects that aren't blogs by structure, and some results were the blogs with "hard to identify" platform.

The research showed that in this niche WordPress has over 50% share of the market with a very huge gap between WordPress and its closest competitor Blogger. Moreover, some blogging solutions (MovableType, Type Pad, Semiologic) that might be expected to be barely popular - on the contrary got a nice share of the market, becoming potential competitors to Google's Blogger in the nearest future.

Research Interpretations.

The figures talk better than words and give a very nice food for interpretations. However some of the trends are very interesting to get noted here.

First of all we can say that, despite the media and "moral" support from Google, Blogger has just managed to pass over 10% barrier. This is a nice share of the market; however WordPress managed to dominate and grab a lot more in the fight with the solution which was "blessed" by the top search engine of the world.

It is also obvious that blogging market became a dream land for the creators of other solutions. And those companies who created blogging solutions with high quality of blog management and succeeded in being user friendly now are becoming very dangerous competitors even for such famous platforms as blogger.
